The Secretarys visit to The Roubaix Velodrome, 06-10-2017.

The Rye Wheelers have over the years taken part in some of the Iconic Spring Classics including the “Hell of the North” or The Paris-Roubaix. Whilst there we have been treated royally well by the local VC Roubaix Cycling Club and in particularly by Jean Claude Cremers who has played host to many a Wheeler and generously shared his extensive stock of Belgian Beers. All the Wheelers that have taken part in the Paris Roubaix have had the honour of a lap of the old uncovered Velodrome at the finish which is in the shadow of the new covered Velodrome.
On his return home from L’eroica, Club Sec Paul Simpson decided to stop over to share more of Jean Claudes’ beers and hospitality. Jean Claude had as a special suprise booked a 1/2 hour slot for himself and Paul at the new Covered Velodrome and for Paul to take his “Diplome de Bapteme de Piste”. Now to say that the Sec felt a tad out of his comfort zone is to put it mildly but after a few wobbly laps and a bit of instruction he lost the fear that he was going to fall off the banked wall and was duely awarded his Diploma.
Now there are many Wheelers who would put up a much better show than me, any one up for a trip?
