Tom Simpson Memorial Ride, Mt Ventoux. 13-07-2022.

with No Comments

In November Paul Simpson and Ralph Sperring visited Ghent in Belgium to attend a Retro Cycle Jumble which happens to be the biggest in Europe. As they were wandering around looking at the Bikes and Accessories, adding somewhat to their respective collections they met Joanne Simpson, the Daughter of Tom Simpson, who had a stand.

Chatting to Joanne it appears that she mantains The Memorial to her Father on Mt Ventoux and does this by selling “Tom Simpson” Cycling Kit, taking donations, and probably paying a lot of it herself.

The reason for the stand is that Joanne is planning a ride on the 13th of July 2022 up Ventoux on a retro Peugeot that has a lot of the components from her Fathers bike fitted to it.

The ride is open to all and I would just love it if some fellow Wheelers were up for joining in to keep Joanne company and also pay hommage to her Father Tom Simpson a true legend. If anyone is interested please contact Paul Simpson; paul.simpson21@btopenworld.com

On the 50th anniversary of her Fathers death Joanne and some friends(Bradley Wiggins included) rode up Ventoux in the Kit she had designed and now sells.

Joanne explains the design;

Union Jack because he raced for his Country in 1967.

On the back, “Put me back on my Bike”, his last words.

49 was his last race number.

World Champion Colours on the sleeve for 1965.

Yellow on the sleeve for 1962.

The kit is available from Joanne and is supplied by Bio Racer so good quality, sizes and prices as below;

If anyone is interested in taking part in the ride contact Paul Simpson, or keep an eye on the Tom Simpson Appreciation facebook page; Tom Simpson Appreciation Group
If you want any of the Kit then contact Paul Simpson or Joanne on; jkaysimpson@gmail.com
