Rye Wheelers Charity Cycling Hill Climbing Challenge
Once again we are running this well supported event in aid of Rye & Winchelsea District Hospital. We hope to be making use of the facilities of their community ‘Hub’ which is also the start of the ride. Last year even in the depths of the Covid crisis the club managed to donate over £180 to the Hospital.
With three courses to choose from there is something to challenge everyone; whether you are more of a scenic cyclist intent on discovering the more picturesque country lanes of Kent & East Sussex (White Ride), or a fairly confident regular road rider (Red Ride, or an experienced racing cyclist preparing for the challenge of the hill climbing season (Black Ride). There will be a course for you at this year’s event.
Sign on is from 8.00am cyclists will be starting from 08.30:
100K Black Route including. 1900m of climbing this is a very testing, hilly course taking us into the country lanes of East Sussex and the cols around Brightling. With the promise of a picnic Lunch at the top of Willingford Lane.
Starting at 09.00
75K Red Route including 1300m of climbing; following much of the same route as Black, a shorter distance, but still including a good lunch at Hundred House Lane.
Starting from 09.30
50K White Route With 824m of climbing this route will be a challenge, but it takes you through some of the most pictureque vilages & scenery aound Rye. Cycling with the promise of a picnic in the country.
Fully supported by Rye wheelers marshals, with three lunch stops included in the entry price, this ride has a £15 pay on the day entry price.

I shall be looking for some Rye Wheelers members to help Marshall the ride: If anybody has time to help put out signage on Saturday 28th August help would be greatly appreciated. We shall need around 4 of us at the start to sign in the riders and see them off. Help and a friendly face at the Lunch stops is good, Then someone to take turns at the finish in the car park at the Community Hub at Rye Hospital.”
